I am a great follower...

...maybe a shitty leader, but a great follower.

Ok, maybe not a great follower, but a follower...

And for that I get awarded!!!!

Anything for an award...

Thank you Chris T in My Virtual Attic.

Yes, thank you, Chris...

I think...

Why do all these blogger awards come with rules?

But, being me, I see accepting this award as a way to break some rules....

Or maybe making up some of my own rules...

Acceptance of this award is suppose to entitle me to tell you 47 things about myself...

46 things asked by the award giver and one thing I get to add myself....

Which means whoever I choose to give this award to has to answer 48 questions....

Oh yeah, I get to share the misery...

So hear we go...

Now remember, I am a rule breaker, so if some of these questions do not sound familiar Chris, just play along...

9. If I could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?

Good night!

This hits home...

Recovering Catholic that I am...

Each Friday night after work Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook venison steaks for the neighborhood.

All of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic. So during Lent, they were forbidden to eat meat on Friday.

On the Fridays of Lent, the delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest.

The priest came to visit Bubba and suggested that he become a Catholic.

After several classes and much study Bubba attended Mass.

And as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said:

"You were born a Baptist, and raised a Baptist but now you are a Catholic..."

Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved...

Until the first Friday of the next Lenten season and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison again filled the neighborhood.

The neighbors called the priest immediately...

He rushed into Bubba's yard clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him...

But all he could do was watch in amazement....

There stood Bubba...

Clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted:

"You wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a catfish..."

Thanks to my best-looking younger brother for sharing this....

It's SuperBowl Sunday....

And for me that means party time!

Partay...

With the Saints and the Sinners (aka Colts)...

Not that I did any sinning with Peyton Friday...

Since the Browns did not make it to Florida this year my interest in who wins or loses comes down to who's hot and who's not....

Go Peyton!!!!

To bring a little fun to the game, I like to play squares with whoever decides I am fun enough to party with...

I shop for after-Christmas specials and grab at least 5 prizes in the $8-$10 range and 20-30 prizes in the $1-$5 range...

I usually buy extra so the winners always have a choice.

And I buy things I can take back if we do not use them (or that I want and will keep for myself)...

CareBear offered to buy some of the prizes this year and she has much better taste than I do so I cannot wait to see what she bought....

The smaller prizes go to the 4 squares surrounding the winning square at the quarters.

I did buy a few scratch off lotto tickets for the smaller prizes, but I am a scratch-off junkie...

I cannot let them sit around too long without scratching...

So when Ames and G-Man came back early from the Cavs game that they did not have tickets for...

I decided to cheer them up with scratch-offs....

But I was the only one who got cheered up - winning $20 (sorry Superbowl partiers)....

But I used the winnings to buy the Cavs' ticketless couple some food from Red Robin, so they were cheered...

A little anyway...

Why were they ticketless, you ask???

G-Man's birthday present to Ames was club seats at a Cav's game.

Wow, big spender....

And for a weekend game - how did you manage that???

Well, apparently, he didn't...

The ticket taker found a problem with the tickets....

Hmmm, these are for Tuesday's game...

Yep, in the middle of the week....

On a school night....

Wednesday is going to be a bear...

Maybe I should take those tickets off their hands...

Heard over the wall....

...at Peyton PHlaCe....
My wife will not let me play handball any more....

Where's my Peyton????

Early morning t-times let me get back in bed before the wife.....what????

What's your wife doing this weekend???

These numbers suck...

Hey, did you see the memo...we did sucky last year but we did a good job of it...we're getting a bonus!

Let's suck harder next year!

What memo???

What bonus???

Just kidding....no memo...no bonus ...

Damn, FPM, when are you going to learn to keep that shit to yourself???

I forgot they were over there...

Ha - this time I got the memo, too!

Probably by mistake, but can't take it away now!

Not that it will make much difference...

2% of hardly anything is not a whole hell of a lot of motivation to suck harder next year!

But, if I invest it in lotto tickets, maybe I will win the big one...

Now that's a retirement plan!

Peyton Visited the Office Today...

I had to protect him from all the local Saints fans trying to kidnap him....

Yeah...it was a tough job....

But someone had to do it...

Yeah...that's a lot of bull...

This made me laugh out loud in a meeting when I got it so I thought I should share it.....

A DEA officer stops at a ranch in South Dakota, and talks with an old rancher.

DEAO: I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.
Rancher (pointing over there): Okay, but stay out of that field over
there...

DEAO: Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me.
Rancher: But...
DEAO (pulling his badge out): No buts about it, mister.... See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish, on any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?
Rancher: Yessir. Pardon me for interfering.

A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the DEA officer running for his life...

He is in that field over there being chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull......

With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems likely that he'll get gored before he reaches safety.

The officer is clearly terrified, looking in the direction of the rancher for help.

The rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs.....

Your badge! Show him your BADGE !

Urban Mary is.....

Woah...

Way too much....

I took the advice of Moooooog35 over at Mental Poo
and looked up my name at urbandictionary.com

Yeah...

So, then I thought I should narrow it down a bit and include my given middle name...

Now I am just:
A woman that a man uses to fill the void in his life.

So what else is new....

However, my chosen name Phillipia is as yet undefined...

A cute habit-wearing fruit-bearing humor blogger.

or...

A habit-wearing fruit-bearing blogger who tries to be cute and funny.

or...

Help me out...

But be gentle, please.

Pa Rock's Dead Pool

I have submitted my entries:
Barack Obama
Tiger Woods
Joe Cocker
Queen Elizabeth
Stephen Tyler
Macaulay Culkin
Betty White
Jack Nicholson
MeatLoaf (I sure hope I am wrong)
OJ Simpson

I do not wish death on any of these people....

I hope none of them are already dead because that would probably disqualify me...

I promise not to help them reach their final destination just for my benefit....

Or for any reason....

You have until midnight to submit your entries to Rocky Macy.

Contest rules are posted at: Pa Rocks Ramble

This is a mixed bag...

My Horoscope for today....

Because I needed to know....

Quickie: You're no longer worried about the details. You've gained a healthy perspective.

Overview: There are plenty of people who need your help today -- so look around and offer! Friends, family, colleagues and strangers all appreciate what you've got to give, and there's lots to go around.

Extended Overview: You've just about had it with the veiled comments and sarcastic remarks that have been tossed your way lately on a far too regular basis. It's probably family members that have been at it, but regardless, you're ready to stop being nice and fight back. Well, good for you. Why put up with something you know you don't deserve -- especially when you know you'd never do this to them? Words can hurt far worse than weapons, if they're aimed at the heart.

Excuse me while I go digest this...

Damn...

I did NOT win the lotto....

Again...

How many times do I need to play this thing to win???

WTF????

It is 8:53 on a Saturday night...

The doorbell rings...

By the time get up the stairs to answer it...

Noone's there....

I am sure it was my knight in shining armour...

But I was just too fricking slow getting to the door...

Damn...

Oh well...

His loss....

Just when I thought it was safe....

I recently thought I might try the online dating thing again....

Well think again...

Just as I was considering posting a new profile, I felt some ugly repercussions from my last foray into that realm...

No, I am not going to divulge any kiss and tell secrets...

But let's just say I am pretty horrible at wading through the good, the bad, and the ugly...

And by ugly, I mean those who are not what they seem....

I have managed to be attracted to a Nigerian scammer, a secret service pain in the ass, and a reformed con artist....

Okay, so maybe he was not as reformed as he led me to believe...

I just look for the best in everyone...

And I end up getting shown the worst...

Maybe it is not just on-line dating...

After all, I did marry a man who turned out to not be the husband or father of my kids that I wanted...

Maybe I just suck at any dating....

Either way...

I have just decided to continue my sabbatical from that arena for awhile longer...

If I hint at going there again, please stop me...

Do anything to stop me...

I did not need to know that....

This month I spent quite a few hours with LDBoy's friends.

In between mourning - there were a couple of nights that were pretty much a toast to life and let's party like Ryan would have wanted us too...

Saturday night after the house fire, quite a few in town friends went to downtown Akron and shared a drink or three and reminisced.

The last time I had seen most of these friends was at the awesome New Year's Eve party...

I thought I had handled myself and my alcohol pretty well that night....

Saturday I began to hear differently.

Hey Mom, how ya doing? Remember me?

Yeah...(why wouldn't I??? )

Remember my friend here???

No? Have we met before???

You don't remember?

No....

I was thankful that I was pulled away from that conversation ('cuz I was sorta afraid of where it was headed) to go across the street and watch another friend perform his Drag Queen show which he dedicated to Ryan....

That was a first for me...

It was fun, especially since we all knew the performer.

And all the tips he collected he handed over to Ryan's family to help cover travel and funeral expenses. Thank you, Preston.

And then Thursday night (because apparently Thursday was the night the boys liked to party at Lux's)...

First Class Limos supplied two limos (because apparently Ryan was such a good customer) and Lux's nightclub supplied food....

And it was here that I realized that I was not as in control of myself on New Year's Eve as I thought...

Apparently I had even more fun than I remember...

And we will leave it at that...

Where is Phillipia????

It has been a crazy month so far and I have not had much humor in my life to blog about....

But I will be back soon....

I promise....

Some promises do not have to be kept...

Seriously...

My ex's Mom passed away Thursday.

The Friday before Thanksgiving she went in for open heart surgery...

The docs sent her home without the operation because they decided she was too fragile to survive it...

A major concern of hers, knowing that she just had a couple of months to spend with her family, has been that her dogs be buried with her.

She has two dogs.

Sophie is older and blind and it would be difficult to find someone to take her in.

However, Danny Boy is young and frisky and CareBear wants him...and so does her Dad, for that matter.

But, Grandma insisted that her son and daughter promise to bury DannyBoy with her because no one can give him the love she gives him...

So they promised...

So their Mom would Rest in Peace.

And now they plan on keeping that promise....

WTF????

Too bad she loved the dogs more than her son, eh?
"I love you so much, son, I want you to go to heaven with me when I do. Can you promise me that?"
Can you go to prison for dogknapping?

If so, CareBear and I had nothing to do with it....

If we can pull it off...

And CareBear just happens to adopt a dog with DannyBoy's personality...

Some Things need to be said again...

A man goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers ticket office and inquires about purchasing play-off tickets.

The ticket teller replies that there are not any ticketsfor sale because the Steelers did not make it to the play-offs.

The following day the same man goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers ticket office and inquires about purchasing Steeler play-off tickets.

The ticket teller politely replies that there are not any tickets for sale because the Steelers did notmake it to the play-offs.

This goes on every day for an entire week.

And every day for another week....

Finally the ticket teller loses patience:

Teller:
I'VE TOLD YOU FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS THERE ARE NOT ANY TICKETS AVAILABLE BECAUSE THE STEELERS DID NOT MAKE THE PLAY-OFFS!!!!

Man:
I know. I drive every day all the way from Cleveland just to hear you say that!

Grapple this...

Yes, Ryan was eccentric...

Let me tell you about the time we all went to Myrtle beach for summer vacation.

We decided pretty late in the season that we wanted to actually take a vacation that year (2006, I think).

I mentioned it to some friends at one of Gary's Middle School track meets.

I wanted to go late June, early July ...

That was the only time that would work for all of us...

I was looking for a cabin or cottage - hopefully on water.

Well, timing was perfect because another Mom just happened to have a time share in MB that they were not using this year and - though they had already traded - she though there might be an availability in the development.

And there was - and we got the friends and family discount:)

So we were on our way.

CareBear and KB....

G-Man....

Myself....

LDboy.....

Ryan...

We took three cars...

We had not planned it that way.

The plan was to take my car and Ryan's. They were the two in the best shape.

And Ryan and LDBoy had a business partner/friend in the area so they could do a little work while down there.

The day before we are ready to leave, Ryan decides that he and LDBoy should consider not going because of some business venture....

Needless to say, I am pretty pissed.

"Maybe we will fly down in a couple days..." NOT - unless you are flying back, too.

"Maybe we can put this off a week..." NOT - it's a time share...
"Maybe we can work down there.." NOT - it's vacation

Maybe you had better figure out something...

Because this is a "family" vacation, Ryan, and you do not get to spoil it for us.

If you do not want to come with us, Ryan, fine, but do not try to guilt LDBoy into not coming....

It was planned, for crying out loud....

We need this....

And we needed to take two cars...

Whether there were 4 of us or 6 of us....

We would not all fit in one care with all of our stuff....

So I pack a lot...sue me...

Change of plans... - let's get CareBear's car into the shop for a much needed maintenance visit.

Not how I planned to spend the day before, but whatever....

We are on our way...

LDBoy and Ryan - after much back and forth - and a lil whining - decided they would be 12 hours behind us...

Which actually turned out to be 4 hours because they travel 3x as fast as we do...

This was supposed to be a relaxing week...

And it sort of was...except for Ryan's whining about lack of internet and amount of hours LDBoy was NOT working on this new deal...

It's vacation, that's V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N.

Sand, beach, sunscreen....

The boardwalk....

Downtown MB....

Swords and knives and guns and grappling hooks...

Everywhere....

For sale.....

What part of "family" vacation did you guys not understand?

I went to bed early that night - just because I was exhausted...

Driving, shopping, unpacking....

What night, you ask?

The night I was awakened by voices telling Ryan that he should not try to hoist his new grappling hook up onto the roof so he could climb up to the balcony outside his room....

I was out of that bed faster than Ryan could say "Aaaarrrrgh!"

Give me that grappling hook...

No Buts, buster...

I know its yours...

I know I am not your Mom...

I know you are an adult...

Just hand it over....

You'll get it back when we are ready to leave...

Last night we were at Whiskey Dick's and CareBear mentioned that we would all need a vacation by summer.

Tearing up, she says:

If LDBoy moves to Belize with Aaron (yeah, more fallout) we should all meet up in MB and rent a condo - one with a grappling hook, Mom...'cuz you know that would be fitting and all...

Way to lighten the mood, CareBear:)

My fairy name....

I was visiting CatLadyLarew over at her blog home...

And got hooked into trying the
Fairy Name Generator....

Using my blog name...

Your fairy is called Fidget Hailfrost
She is a protector of the lonely.
She lives in rotting woodlands near poisonous toadstools.
She is only seen during the first snow of winter.
She wears red with white spots, like the toadstools.
She has cheery turquoise wings like a butterfly.

At first glance...that cannot be right....

I am not frigid...

Oh, wait...Fidget...

That's better...

But my given name...

I should have kept it...damn...
Your fairy is called Columbine Goblinfrost
She is a bringer of riches and wealth.
She lives in mushroom fields and quiet meadows.
She is only seen when the seer holds a four-leafed clover.
She wears lilac and purple like columbine flowers.
She has gentle green wings like a butterfly.

Are you holding a four-leafed clover?

Thank you!!!

Thank you to all of you for your prayers and good thoughts through all of the events of the past couple of days.

Ryan had so many friends. His friends at digital gangster has set up a memorial fund to help his family cover funeral expenses. I am not sure how long they are taking donations, but I was totally overwhelmed at the amount they are collecting.

The link to the forum on digital gangster on my left sidebar. It gives you a lil more insight into the friend we have lost.

My brother sent me this this morning and it seemed an appropriate post for today....

Yeah, it's an easy repost - and you have probaly seen it before...

So maybe I am a cheetah.....at a snail's pace...but we're on the same boat:)

Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark

ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat!

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Most people walk in and out of your life......

....but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart.

Thank you all for your friendship!!!

You have no clue....

Yesterday was emotionally draining....

To say the least.

Internet entrepreneur dies in Akron house fire

I had no clue what was happening when LDBoy first called me a lil after 2:00 AM to come to his house...

As I neared the place and saw all the Emergency vehicles, I still had no clue.

But I knew LDBoy was ok for the most part because he had called me a few minutes before to make sure I was on the way.

LDBoy would not say anything about why he wanted me there over the phone.

All the way there (for over an hour) I worried about what was happening.

I realize now that he was pretty much in a state of shock at what was going on around him.

As was another friend who was at the house with him throughout the ordeal.

I did not realize for quite a while the extent of the situation.

Yeah the house they loved was burning down.

But, the Police blocking the street told me they got everyone out of the house before they let me through, so I was not too worried about the boys' safety...

When I got to the house, LD just started telling me things to do....

He wanted me to put Buddy (the half pit bull, half boxer who is mourning on my couch as I write this) into my car so they new where he was.

And they needed to try to get the FD to let them in to get Boa out.

And they needed me to help get hold of Ryan's Mom.

That is when I realized that Ryan was not there.

They had taken him to the hospital....

The situation became crazier when they called the hospital and could get no info because they were not family.

Panic set in as we realized Ryan was not in good shape...

Getting hold of Ryan's Mom was an ordeal that should not have taken as long as it did.

None of us knew her first name or had a working number...thank you Ryan's Mom for having been there for him all through the years...

His sister was in Florida; his Dad in Utah....

The boys were telling the hospital to check Ryan's records from previous visits at another local hospital for contact info...we do not share records, they said....

WTF...

My calls to 411 were useless...

We do not have a listing for a Johnson on that street...

We cannot put you through, it is unlisted....

Get the local PD to put you through...
Yeah...good luck with that...

We had a last name and a street in a local city...how hard can it be...

The boys could point to her house on a map - get someone there....

Finally, through friends of friends of friends on Facebook...

But it was too late...

LDBoy had to break the news to Ryan's sister...

If you read the article and comments above you get a very skewed picture of Ryan.

Not that he was not "eccentric" or that he did not have any mental issues.

He did. We all know that.

But to all the negative commentors, I want to say.....

You have no fucking idea....

Yeah, Ryan made it big young. He did not handle the wealth the way you or I might have handled that much wealth at such a young age. But who knows...most of us did not have to worry about it, did we???

He may have not made his money doing things you or I would not have done, but quit casting stones...

You have no fucking idea....

You did not know Ryan....

Not like my son knew him....

Not like his other good friends knew him....

His good qualities out-weighed his eccentricities a hundred fold.

He could have given money to a charity??????

You have no fucking idea....

He was one of the most generous people I know.

He had a love for life most of us will never have....

And who cares what the house was worth....

It was where they lived....

That house in West Akron, as was the glass house in Bath, was welcoming to all who passed through their doors...

Because Ryan and his friends (my son included) made it that way....

They shared everything they had....

With their friends and families....

You have no fucking idea....

If smoke detectors would have helped....

You really have no clue....

So get off your podium....

Let us mourn the passing of a good person...

Let us mourn our friend's untimely death.

Ryan...I love you, man.

Thank you for your friendship and inspiration to my son.

I am so sorry that not everyone (myself included at times) was always willing to look past the eccentricities to see the the real Ryan.

I know you are with angels now and I hope to see you again someday...

My last fun memory of you Ryan, is New Year's Eve...shortly after midnight...

The tramplone is full of balloons to discourage partiers from using it....

I see you smiling as you walk toward it....across the top of the closets (hard to explain) and you just keep walking right off the walkway and into the trampoline....

You will be sooooo missed.

More prayers please....

No humor here today, blogger friends.

I got a call early this morning from LDBoy to meet him at his house.

A fire at the house he was renting with a friend took his friend's life.

Ryan and LDBoy and a few more guys have been close friends for years - since kindergarten.

This is so tragic for all of them.

They need your prayers and good wishes to get through this.

I was Jonesin'....

I was needing something to read....

A book...

The old-fashioned kind...

That I can read while my computer is booting up...

Or I am in the waiting room...

Or I am curled up on the couch with my Snuggie (more about that later)...

So I made sure I left the office Monday night in time to stop at the local library.

As I am walking in the cute (as in curly-haired, freckles college kid cute) desk guy is announcing that the library will be closing in 20 minutes and everyone should bring their selection to the front desk...NOW...

I assumed NOW meant in 15 minutes, so I took a quick scan for a few books on my list (yeah I have a list)....

I think they rearranged the library since I was there last a few weeks ago....

Really...

How do you go from Sanford to Hoag and then to Patterson on the same shelf....

So I said F-this and decided to see if there was anything by my new favorite author: Christopher Moore.

Ding...Ding...Ding...Jackpot!

Or so I thought.

Blood Sucking Fiends....A love Story

About vampires????

I dropped that sucker right back on the shelf...

No vampires allowed on Phillipia's bookshelf.

One of my unwritten rules.

But then I got to thinking - sometimes I do that....

I do not have a Bible on my shelf of favorite books either...

But Lamb was pretty entertaining...

In an irreverant sort of way...

So I grabbed Fiends and headed for the front desk.

Just as the 5 minutes before closing light blinking charade started ...

I headed home, made dinner - just 'cuz G-Man asked real nice-like, and then headed up to bed with my book.

I gotta tell ya - I was laughing out loud most of the night.

Or at least until the book fell out of my hands because I was just too tired to stay awake.

Thank you Mr. Moore for encouraging me to read outside of my comfort zone...

Gospels and vampires...

If you enjoy this blog you will surely enjoy the irreverance of Christopher Moore....

It doesn't have to be....

I worked most of the weeknd....

Which pissed G-Man off pretty good...

Because I refused to write his senior paper for him...
G-Man: It's Sunday, Mom...you shouldn't be working.
Me: Well, yeah, but I shouldn't be writing your paper either...
And I'd rather be working...

I had to write enough of my own papers in school....

Hell, I am still writing papers...

But not yours, G-Man, because you need to learn...

Learn not to wait til two days before it is due to start it....

G-man: But they just gave it to us....

Me: Stop right there...I know you were talking about this in early December...
I will review and tweek (aka rewrite) the paper as needed...

But I am not doing all the research and stuff....

I have my own work to do....

But I did take about an hour away from work for a trip to the local Gabriel Bros. outlet to help G-Man pick out clothes for the Life Teen Winter Formal...
Me: Why are we going to Gabe's?

G-Man: They have cool stuff there cheap.

Me: I thought this was a formal dance...you have a suit.

G-Man: It doesn't have to be.

Me: Doesn't have to be what???

G-Man: Formal....
I think it is semi-formal...

Me: Which means?

G-Man: Come as you want...

G-Man likes to impress...

Not sure who he likes to impress, but this is what he came up with for this semi-formal dance....

Sorry, Ames:(

I wouldn't dance with him either. ...

But you looked beautiful:)

Thank You, Yahoo...

So I was cleaning out Phillipia's emailbox the other day...

Moving stuff around....

I learned something.

When you move things around too fast, the SPAM button moves into the space where the MOVE button was just a couple of seconds before....

I kept marking all my reader comments SPAM...damn...

And even tho I am pretty quick and noticed my mistakes as I made them....

And marked the SPAM NOT SPAM almost immediately....

Some of you are still SPAM.....

Until I notice and NOT SPAM you....

But unless you change your name I may be NOT SPAM-ing you forever....

You know who you are....

But it's okay...

I still love you.
