Amore....

So it's Valentine's weekend...

And I am single...

Again...

Still...

Whatever...

When I get feeling the least bit down about being alone...

I just think of my last few attempts at not being alone...

Enough said....

But this time of year always brings to mind one of my favorite plays on one of my favorite lines...

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie
That's amore.
When an eel bites your hand and that's not what you planned
That's a moray.
When our habits are strange and our customs deranged
That's our mores.
When your horse munches straw and the bales total four
That's some more hay.
When Othello's poor wife, she gets stabbed with a knife
That's a Moor, eh?
When a Japanese knight used a sword in a fight
That's Sa...mur...ai.

Another resolution...

It is not too late to add to my list of new year's resolutions, right????

It's not like I have kept any of the previous ones anyway...

My new resolution is pretty simple:

When I am heading to an event that the ex will most likely be at also, leave Jose at home.

Damn....

I usually love SuperBowl Sunday.

CareBear and K hosted this year, which worked well for them since they had to work in the morning...

For my part, I made wings and hanky panky and a cheese tray....

And I provided beverages, including, but not limited to, Jose....

And as usual I coordinated the Squares game and provided the silly prizes like I like to do...

And the kids took care of the invites....

Which included their dear old dad...

Which should have been just fine....

He is their dad and they love him...

And it is his house that they are renting from him....

And I usually get along with him ok...

Or at least I can usually be civil to him....

Or at least I can usually keep my pent up, angry feelings about him to myself....

This was not one of those times....

I am not quite sure what set me off...

It could have been that I got sick of  listening to him tell me all about what was going in his work world and pretending to care....

Or maybe it was when he asked if it was going to cost him anything to put his initials in some squares which reminded me what a cheap bastard he could be...

Or maybe I was just a lil bit aggravated because he was there celebrating with us like it was his favorite thing in the whole world when in fact he never ever celebrated SB with us before....

This use to be my thing with the kids and our friends....

Anyway,

I do not remember much after the end of the game....

Which apparently is when I lost it....

Yelling at the ex...

Letting him no exactly what I think about him...

Yeah, I got out of control...

Unexcusable, especially at CareBear's...

Playing "let's do a shot every touch down" with LDBoy was probably not such a great idea....

But it is a great tradition....

And I love tradition....

But I think I may have just got myself uninvited from that one....

Double Damn...

And will this headache ever go away????

Still a recovering RC...

It's in the news...

Vatican says Benedict no longer an organ donor

Pope Benedict is no longer an organ donor....

Because his body belongs to the church....

And it is better that his organs become relics.....

Rather than help someone in need.....

Gotta love the church...

Or not....

Peyton PHlaCe Antics....

In an earlier post I mentioned a recent survey that supposedly measures Employee Engagement at Peyton PHlaCe.

I think I initially misunderstood what the term Employee Engagement means to upper management....

I believe I have it figured out now....

They (UM types) wanted to hear from us who we thought was doing the worst job being a manager....

They needed to know this so that they could then promote our choices up a level....

Just to ensure that these Engaged managers could have the power to practice their Engaging management techniques at a higher level....

Or maybe Empoyee Engagement just does not matter as much to UM as they would like us to believe....

Otherwise.....

Why would they promote someone (known as EG for the purpose of this post) who....

  • Got all time low engagment scores....

  • Treats some of his people like shit...who IMHO are least deserving of being treated like shit...

  • Puts others on a pedestal...who IMHO are least deserving of being on that pedestal ...

  • Regularly badmouths his people publicly in front of their coworkers....
  • Publicly proclaims that tasks assigned to some of us peons (yours truly included) are simple and require little effort.....

  • Is fast to point out mistakes of judgement (in his opinion) of coworkers on his own level in what I perceive as a shameful attempt to ensure himself a spot on the high end of that bell curve....

Seriously....
This guy insisted on taking over a functional group (FG) because he did not feel that they were producing the deliverables that his team needed them to produce....

During his tenure as FG manager, the deliverables expected from the FG were redefined to be substabtially less than they were previously....

A few months later, a reorganization placed said FG under a different supervisor - one on the same level as EG.

Suddenly, tho not surprising to yours truly, EG decides the the requirements from said FG are way less than they ought to be and lays blame on the new manager.....

Until a few months later, EG again assumes responsibilty for the FG.

Suddenly, and again not surprising to yours truly, EG redefines deliverables expected from the FG  to be substabtially less than they were previously....

And EG names a team lead for the FG who is so much like himself  that that move came as no surprise to yours truly.

And for this he gets a promotion....

And it effects yours truly.

I am not surprised....

Just very, very, very disappointed in Peyton PHlaCe UM.....

And I am thinking I need to update my resume.....

I am definitely not one of EG's favorite people....

Probably because I have a bad habit of seeing EG's actions for what they are and calling him on them....

Which was ok before he got this most recent promotion...

For all you dads out there...

A friend told me his daughter just walked into the living room and said:
"Dad cancel my allowance, rent my room out, throw all my clothes out of the window, take my TV, stereo, iPhone and jewelry to the charity shop.
Sell my car, take my front door key and throw me out of the house".
Well she didn't actually put it like that...

She said:
"Dad this is my new boyfriend, Mohammed."

Kind of reminds me of my Dad...

Not that I ever brought home a Mohammed, but no one I brought home was good enough....

Thanks to CoachRick for sharing...

My entries are in....

For Pa Rock's Dead Pool 2011....

Know that I do not do much research at all when picking names of celebrities that I think may die in 2011...

I do not keep up with their personal life enough to care...

My life is exciting enough.....

Anyway....

This morning I am bored, sitting on my couch, fighting a cold....

When I realized that if I am going to do this I had better do it today....

So I googled "sick celebrities"...

Because I only get points if they actually die and I need to give myself a chance....

And then I googled "young celebrities"...

Because the younger they are when they die the more points I get....

And then I threw in Obama for the heck of it....

So without further ado....

Phillipia's entries in Pa Rock's Dead Pool 2011:

Charlie Sheen

Jimmy Buffett

George Clooney

President Obama

Zsa Zsa Gabor

apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas

Michael Douglas

Will Smith

Justin Timberlake

Jennifer Aniston

Wish me luck....

Or not...

The Voices in My Head....

Make them stop....

Oh, wait, that  is Peyton PHlaCe office chatter I am hearing...

There is the continous nose blowing that sounds like canadian geese attempting a ating call....too bad that is a protected species...

If I press 1 for English, I wonder if the CS guy will  stop conversing in Espanol with his family for hours on end....or maybe he is talking to a client.  I admit that I really cannot tell since I did not take Spanish seriously - or at all, for that matter - when I was in high school all those years ago.

And the on and on dialog about why the project is not ready to release....I have an idea; go back to your desk and STFU so I can work on it....

The pounding in my head really is in my head....

Damn winter sinus headaches....

Make it all go away, please....

Damn Shittsburgh Peelers....

A Browns fan, a Steelers fan and a Ravens fan are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves his team more.

The Ravens fan says he's the most loyal and shouts, 'This is for the Ravens!' and throws himself off the mountain.

The Browns fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells, 'This is for EVERYONE!' and pushes the Steelers fan off the mountain!!

Just Saying...WTF...

It has been brought to my attention that the phrase "Just saying..." is so last decade....

If that is how you feel....

Feel free to replace all "Just saying..." references on this blog with "WTF"...

That will work in most places...

If not, deal with it...

Just saying....

If he's a saint....

Pope John Paul II to be beatified May 1

IMHO....

Seems like Benedecit may be sweeping a lot of stuff under the rug here....

Or pushing it back into the closet...

Just saying....

Just for the record....

All the bitching I do about management at Peyton PHlaCe....

I have to say, right now my direct supervisor is noone to bitch about....

For the most part....

Noone is perfect, right?

MCM is supportive of my WFH philosophy which is a big plus in my book.

MCM is a working manager....

And MCM actually backs us up when others try to knock us down...

At least when MCM believes we deserve to be backed up....

Which is most of the time....

One of my biggest fears right now is that MCM will be raked over by one of the other managers at her level...

Because if she looks bad, they look better, right?

And then I am back working for one of  THEM....

You can hear me now....

Technically challenged as I am...

I think I FINALLY got Google Voice set up so that when I make a phone call the person on the other end will actually hear me and not hang up on me....

Now I can work from home and call into meetings without costing me precious cell phone minutes....

If I had service at my house, that is....

Damn Verizon/Sprint network and their deadzones...

Other than my condo and surrounding area being a dead zone, I love my Virgin Mobile pay-as-you-go plan....

It is so worth it...

$25 per month for 300 minutes and unlimited web access....

That's all I need....

Since I cannot get service at home...

AND I have Google Voice...

AND I now have my mics working...

Oh yeah, I digressed....

It seems the mic jack on my home computer is another deadzone....

I finally realized that it was not just me...when I found a USB adapter for my headset...

The mic now works fine...as long as I USB it in rather than mic jack it in (in layman's terms)...

And as for my work computer....

Apparently I needed to tell the mic jack that it was a mic jack...

Go figure....

Rank this.....

So this week is "rank your people" week at Peyton PHlaCe....

All the managers/supervisors are off-site ranking their underlings...

And FPMs are ranking those who have worked on their Ps....

Coincidentally, or not, I received an email this morning asking me if I trusted upper management...

Apparently. a recent survey indicated that not a sufficient number of people trusted upper managemnent to make upper management happy....

So they decided to ask us individually...

Anonomously, of course...

Of course....

Of course, me being me, I replied that I did not trust the guys at the top...

So...next question....

Why Not????

Ok....they asked for it....

And they got it...

MHO that is....

Why would  I trust a management system that fosters competition and backstabbing in the workplace????

Why do managers have to rank their subordinates?

A simple "I would/would not keep her/him" seems to me to be sufficient ranking criteria....

Knowing that someone in your group has to be ranked 1 =  lowest does not seem good for morale....

Personally, I would hope that everyone on my team deserves a 4 or 5 ranking....

And not a 4 or 5 that they are the best on the team...

But that they know what they are doing and are doing their best to do things right.

That way, I know they are doing their job....

And that makes my job easier...

Yeah, I wrote that.....

Because, as it stands now, instead of trusting that my coworkers are doing a good job, my coworkers are regularly looking over my shoulder....

Trying to catch me in mistakes....

Because if I get caught in more mistakes than they do....

Well, its all about the rankings...

Nothing personal...

Well, unfortunately for me, I am not trying to catch their mistakes...

I am too busy making my own....

Gotta love office politics....

Ok, new resolution for 2011:

Find a way to work for myself.....

Office treats....

It is the second day back to work and there are leftover treats everywhere....

It seems I am not the only one who over-baked and under-entertained this holiday season.

Which makes my Chinese New Year resolution even more appealing...

And this treat from a friend....

The 2010 TSA Statistics on airport screenings are in...
